Ashley hand-embroiders women in a surrealistic style, highlighting the gaze to sensual parts, drawing the relationship between women as subjects for art, gaze, and pleasure to the traditional roles of women's work. Using ‘stitch work’ to merge the domestic, the decorative, and craft spaces women occupy with the sensual disembodied parts, she ‘sews’ a new definition of feminine and feminist. Ashley’s Cosmic Queen series places women’s hair as a crown that is connected to the cosmos – light and life energy unfold to reach mind and self, moving toward a new evolution of the universe.
